Laura Meier grew up in Charleston, SC and moved to Charlotte after graduating from Appalachian State University. After obtaining a master's degree in teaching from Winthrop University, she was employed with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, teaching high school Social Studies in a drop-out prevention program. She is extremely grateful that she was able to be a stay-at-home mom to her two boys, now 20 and 17.
While raising her own children, Laura helped open an after-school program for kids from Sedgefield Middle School living in the Brookhill neighborhood, becoming its director. Later, she delved into her love of photography, published a few photos in Today’s Charlotte Woman and Our State, and captured photos of countless children and families in Charlotte. She has worked as a campaign manager and has volunteered for numerous political campaigns.
In 2017, Laura joined the board of Charlotte Women’s March as co-chair of its Racial Equity group. She currently serves as CWM’s Co-President, advocating for equity for ALL women. She has served on the board of Lillian’s List, and is currently on the board of Cops and Barbers.
Laura is an active member of Avondale Presbyterian Church, where she is an Elder and Co-Leader of Stewardship.
Laura has been married to Jeff for 25 years, and is the mother of Jay and Ben, who both attended CMS schools. They currently live in Dilworth with their two dogs, Twain and Stella.
